Currently, YK-11 is being investigated in Japan by a state-sponsored team of scientists. A second study from 2013 examined the effect of YK-11 on C2C12 muscle cells in a petri dish. Administration of YK-11 to muscle cells has been found to produce more anabolic factors than comparable amounts of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The breakthrough property of this study is that YK-11 stimulates muscle cells to produce more follistatin, a myostatin inhibitor.
